Pickering Castle

Pickering Castle

Pickering Castle was constructed in the 13th century and was a royal hunting lodge, holiday home and a stud farm by a succession of medieval kings. This tourist attraction in the heart of the North York Moors National Park is now under the care of English Heritage.

The castle is reputedly haunted by the apparition of a monk that walks the grounds in the direction of the keep. Author and photographer John Mason and his researcher reportedly heard footsteps in the empty Diate Tower in 1999.
